Third Concentration Piece

For this piece I decided to illustrate an artist. This is different from my first two pieces because instead of it focusing on missing the family and trying to provide for them it is about longing to be out in nature or somewhere other than the city. Even though the woman is painting this beautiful mountain scene if you look out the window she is stuck in the heart of the city working.
I decided to do this piece in pencil because it is my favorite medium. I also tried to create an interesting composition by placing my objects in specific ways. I added color to the painting with colored pencils so that the eye is drawn to it. I am pretty happy with this piece. I put a lot of hard work into and did the best I could.

So this is my second concentration. It's a painting of a janitor in a disgusting bathroom. I used a new medium for this project that I was not used to (watercolor pencils) so it is a little rough around the edges. I incorporated the picture of his family into his pocket and I kind of like how it turned out it looks very bold there. Well I hope Mrs. Danahy think it is grimey enough. I tried my hardest! Over all though I am pretty satisfied with this piece now that I look at it. I like the placement of the objects in the composition. Anywho I hope it is okay.

First Concentration Piece

This is my first concentration piece. It is a picture of a teacher in her classroom. The message I am trying to convey is that she is working to support her family in present time. The picture on the black board is a picture of what is supposed to be her family. It is prestent to help convey my message. The picture is also the only thing in color. I thought this would help lead the viewers eye to that spot. I also used slanted lines to create a flow and a more interesting composition. I tried to take risks and be creative in this piece. One of the ways i did this was by cutting black paper to fit her face as the chalk board and then writing on it in chalk. Although I think that in this picture the colors are not as dark as they are in the composition, I still would have worked more on the contrast between light and dark and made my darks darker.

Concentration Statement

In today's weak economy many Americans are struggling to bring home the necessary means that are required to support themselves and their families. Through my concentration I will take a look at these hard working Americans and the different occupations they have. I will focus on the expressions of each of the individuals and attempt to capture the feeling and mood of the peole living today with the current state of the economy. I will incorporate the individual's families into each of the illustrations to show what they are working for.
