So this is my second concentration. It's a painting of a janitor in a disgusting bathroom. I used a new medium for this project that I was not used to (watercolor pencils) so it is a little rough around the edges. I incorporated the picture of his family into his pocket and I kind of like how it turned out it looks very bold there. Well I hope Mrs. Danahy think it is grimey enough. I tried my hardest! Over all though I am pretty satisfied with this piece now that I look at it. I like the placement of the objects in the composition. Anywho I hope it is okay.

I think you did such a good job with making the bathroom nasty! It looks like a gross public bathroom should. My only suggestion would be to bring his facial expression out a little more so that the viewer gets drawn to it instantly.
ReplyDeleteC.C. - I agree with Sydney's comment above. I also want to see you drawing from life (like have Dylan model for you) for the basis of your drawing so that the figures are stronger in your artwork. You did a nice job establishing space and getting a sense of atmosphere surrounding the subjects. I would push contrast much more in your work so that you have stronger darks and lights. This will help to add depth and space and make the images even more believable. Overall, nicely done and I am anxious to see how your develop your zombie ideas into the focus on working America!
ReplyDeleteSince you missed the 2D Design class last year, I feel like a review of the principals of design would benefit your compositions. Please see me about this.
I agree with Sydney, the bathroom is totally gross (as it should be lol). I am really interested to see where you are going to take your concentration and where its gonna end up by the end of the year, its a cool concentration that could be used in so many different ways. This piece was done really well, i think that you controlled your medium well. I think that in your future pieces you can add more of a personal voice to the artwork through branching out and doing something that is interesting and new (not that the completed pieces arent).
