For my fourth concentration piece I decided to take a step away from the actual workplace and look at the brutal consequences of today's tough economy. The result is a man out of house and home begging for enough to just survive.I really tried to improve my drawing skills in this one. I tried to really catch the mood of the hard times by the expression on his face and his worn appearance. I worked on emphasizing the values which is something I had struggled on in past compositions. I think this time I really managed to make the objects in this work pop.
Lastly I tried to make the piece more interesting by using cardboard for the mans sign. I then drew a can over it, I thought this was a very interesting concept that I hope to evolve on in future compositions.
Caitlin--this is really good. I love how much you've improved already. The values are more drastic, the subject is more interesting, and the cardboard is a nice addition. I especially like how the soda can blends into the cardboard. My only suggestion is that the cardboard looks a little out of place..you could try and integrate it more with the rest of the work by making the background cardboard, etc..also, have you thought about putting color in this? Other than that, awesome!
